Spiritual ecology fellowship
A six-month project incubation and leadership programme for emerging environmental leaders.
How can we unite spiritual values with practical projects for lasting change? What does it mean to embed spiritual ecology practices into our lives and work? What can we learn from leaders and projects already implementing this worldview?
From 2015 - 2018 the Spiritual Ecology Fellowship was offered as part of the Spiritual Ecology Programme at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation & Peace. In my role as Programme Manager, I co-designed and co-facilitated alongside Centre Director Justine Huxley.
Over two years, we brought together 2 cohorts of young people; artists, activists, educators, food growers, conservationists and more, from across the UK and Europe, and diverse faith and spiritual backgrounds. The programme was structured around four immersive nature retreats, over the course of which we explored the principles, practices and project applications of spiritual ecology. Each participant was supported to pilot a spiritual ecology project, and we were fortunate to be able to award seed grants to twelve of the fellows towards the continued development of their work.
Guest teachers included Tiokasin Ghosthorse, Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee, Adam Bucko, Eleanor O’Hanlon and Martin Palmer.
Kalliopeia Foundation also offered a sister programme in the United States, and I was fortunate to be able to attend and co-facilitate on a number of these retreats.
