We need acts of restoration, not only for polluted waters and degraded lands, but also for our relationship to the world.
— Robin Wall Kimmerer

Spiritual ecology is an emerging formulation of an ancient, universal and innate knowledge, with which all human lineages have been entwined in the past. This understanding is a consciousness of, and relationship with, our Earth and natural world as a multidimensional, intelligent, interconnected, inspirited and sacred whole.

Spiritual ecology – and its associated eco-spiritual movements within religion, science, activism, academia and art – explores what it means for humans to return, once again, to this innate relationship with our Earth, within the context and complexities of our modern world. In doing so, it offers new pathways to contribute to the inner and outer regeneration urgently needed for the future of life.

Over the past ten years in my work, I have had the opportunity to witness spiritual ecology as a growing intersectional and international movement, particularly among younger generations, as our understanding of the spiritual roots of our planetary polycrisis becomes increasingly widely recognised.

What we most need to do is to hear within ourselves, the sound of the Earth crying”
— Thich Nhat Hanh

My work is grounded in the following core values & practices:

  1. Listening to the living earth

  2. Interconnectedness or inter-being

  3. Reverence and respect for the sacredness of all life

  4. Service to the whole community; human and more-than-human

  5. Guardianship of our collective home
