JULY BOOK OF THE MONTH
Title:
Sand Talk: How Indigenous Thinking Can Save the World
by Tyson Yunkaporta
Genres:
Non-fiction, indigenous philosophies, systems thinking, regenerative sustainability.
About:
In this paradigm-shifting book, Yunkaporta invites us to think and see from an Aboriginal perspective - one tied to the natural and spiritual world. Through images, symbols, and the tradition of yarning, he explores how this ancient understanding can help us solve the complex challenges of our modern times.
Tyson Yunkaporta is an Aboriginal scholar and founder of the Indigenous Knowledge Systems Lab at Deakin University in Melbourne.
““There is no distinction between natural and unnatural. So nature for us is just everything that is.””

We’ll take the month to read the book. On the final Sunday in July, we’ll come together in a facilitated space designed to deepen our reflections on the book’s stories and themes, and the wider work of reweaving people, the living earth, and the sacred.
What we’ll explore
- How can indigenous knowledge help us solve the complex challenges of our time?
- What new models can we learn and apply to our everyday lives?
- How can native ways of thinking spiritually and physically tie us to the living earth?
I share ongoing reflections and quotes during the month via Substack notes and Instagram stories. You are welcome to follow along and join the conversation there!
